The British Ambassador and the British Cultural Attache (and Director of the British Council, Almaty, Kazakhstan) took time out from their very busy schedules to visit the Plato University of Management and Design (Plato UMD), to learn more about this European educational institution which offers its students a British education in Central Asia. Plato UMD is based in the capital city Bishkek of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Plato UMD’s VIP visitors toured Plato UMD‘s campus and remarked about the modern facilities, equipment and design and decoration of the main building and its lecture rooms.

Over tea and biscuits, the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr Nigel Browne outlined Plato UMD’s teaching philosophy and methodology, and elaborated the educational benefits of a vocational education to students, (future employees), and for employers.

Other discussions were held about the problems of Plagiarism in modern education and ways to eradicate it, and the importance of the integrity and honesty of educational institutions and the qualifications they award.

Outline agreements were made with the Cultural Attache to organise collaboratively with Plato UMD an educational conference highlighting vocational training as a serious option for students, majoring on the advantages of British qualifications which are internationally recognised. This conference will probably be staged on or around the end of October or the beginning of November 2010.

Furthermore, cooperation was sought in the sphere of holding a “UK Day” in the autumn either before or to coincide with the above conference. Such topics and exhibitions might include: doing business with the UK, living and life in the UK, studying in the UK, tourism, the UK Border Agency, activities of the British Council, activities of the British Government through DiFD, consular activities of the British Embassy, etc.
