Tatiana Gfoeller, US Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic, made historic parallels between Kyrgyz and USA revolutions during her lecture to the Plato UMD students. “As you are now standing the same shoes we stood a couple of centuries ago, it’s time to learn lesson from the past and continue building your young democratic state”, Ms. Gfoeller urged the Plato UMD students.

In her lecture devoted to the early stages of US sovereignty, she reviewed the major concepts for the young US democracy, focused on personalities that moved forward the democratic development of the country and shaped the path for the US progress.

After the lecture was over, Plato UMD students offered the Ambassador to continue the discussion with a question-and-answer session. In particular, the Plato UMD students were interested in historic parallels between the US and Kyrgyz democracy formation and tried to analyze whether historic lessons could be learned and implied to Kyrgyz reality. Plato UMD students have also raised a question of possible scenarios of US state development – US monarchy, British dominion or independent democracy.
